Microbind Affinity Filtration Technology: The Seraph 100 Microbind Affinity Blood Filter is an extracorporeal hemoperfusion device designed to directly remove pathogens and toxins from blood. Its core technology involves ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene microbeads coated with immobilized heparin. These heparin-coated beads mimic the heparan sulfate receptors on human cell surfaces, tricking pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi) into binding to the beads instead of host cells. As blood flows through the filter, pathogens and inflammatory mediators adhere to the beads and are thus adsorbed and removed from circulation. Importantly, the filter adds nothing to the bloodstream and operates via adsorption alone.
